About The Position

To maintain a record system of Emergent Bilingual students; keep data information in such a manner that records can easily be located regarding Emergent Bilingual student testing, placement and monitoring. Assist teachers in providing instruction to Emergent Bilingual students in the classroom.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Qualify for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
  • Ability to assist in instructing, supporting and monitoring reading, writing, and mathematics to groups of Emergent Bilingual students and Newcomers
  • Interest and proficiency in reading and math
  • Demonstrate an interest in education
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Responsibilities

  • Assist in carrying out the district’s goal of improving student achievement by providing assistance to students who are at-risk of academic failure or dropping out of school and/or staff who work with these students.
  • Assist teachers in providing instruction to students in the classroom.
  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date files related to testing, placement and monitoring Emergent Bilingual students (LPAC binder/notebook).
  • Enter Emergent Bilingual input of student records to computer and reporting and makes corrections to the student’s Emergent Bilingual data file.
  • Prepare agendas for each monthly meeting of the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee.
  • Administer and score oral language proficiency tests and achievement test.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  • Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  • Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
