About the position

The ESL Teacher at Westborough Public Schools is responsible for fostering a love of learning among English Language Learners (ELLs) in a diverse and inclusive environment. This role involves providing engaging learning experiences across various subjects while facilitating English language acquisition and supporting the academic, social, and behavioral needs of students. The position is part-time, covering both elementary and middle school levels for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming and supportive learning environment that embraces diversity.
  • Engage English Language Learners through linguistic frames for speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
  • Provide learning experiences across all subject areas through the development of rigorous, differentiated units and lessons.
  • Scaffold language for academic support through various models, including co-teaching and inclusion.
  • Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum and provide specific feedback.
  • Evaluate and refine instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning and engagement.
  • Collaborate with other educators to provide appropriate instruction and supports for English Language Learners.
  • Participate in school-based and district-wide faculty and committee meetings as required.
  • Partner with families to keep them informed about their student's progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field.
  • MA DESE licensure in ESL, K-6 required, and 7-12 preferred.
  • Experience teaching English Language learners in a diverse public school setting.
  • Knowledge of WIDA Standards and language objectives.
  • Strong background in language acquisition instruction.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with students with special needs, including emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges.
  • Additional certification in special education and/or Elementary Education.
  • Experience with Balanced Literacy, Readers' and Writers' Workshop model, and Explicit phonics instruction.
  • Experience with Inquiry-based instruction and Project-based learning.
  • Familiarity with Eureka Math and FOSS Science.
