About the position

Lakeside Veterinary Hospital is a well-established, progressive, fast-paced companion animal/exotics General Practice, Urgent Care, and ER located in Carbondale, Illinois. We provide general wellness services for all pets as well as emergency and critical care for dogs and cats on the weekend. Our in-house laboratory testing and x-ray facilities mean that we can have results quickly. We routinely treat allergic reactions, cardio-vascular shock, trauma (hit by car, etc.), venomous snake bites, toxic ingestions, heat stroke, respiratory distress, parvovirus, vomiting, diarrhea, assist in labor and delivery, repair lacerations, and other critical or urgent situations. We are looking to add a veterinary technician to our ER and Urgent Care team! We value your expertise, your passion and most importantly, your love of animals! When you join our team, you become a member of our family of doctors, technicians, and receptionists who go above and beyond for our clients. Our hours of operation are: Monday - Friday: 9 AM - 5 PM, Friday, Saturday, Sunday (ER Only): 12 PM - 12 AM.

Responsibilities

  • Animal restraint
  • Triage of incoming patients
  • Collection and analysis of lab samples
  • Diagnostic imaging
  • Management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability
  • Administration of medications
  • Effective communication of treatment plans with clients
  • Surgical preparation and assistance
  • Anesthetic management

Requirements

  • A Veterinary Technician with an active license preferred but not required
  • 2+ year professional experience required
  • Consistent punctuality and reliability in adherence to scheduled shifts
  • Availability to work weekends
  • Excellent client communication and medical record management skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of veterinary procedures, preventative care, and hospital operations
  • Expertise in safe and low-stress animal restraint techniques
  • Proficiency in various sample collection methods, including blood, urine, fecal, and skin specimens
  • Experience in radiographic positioning and image capture
  • Experience in anesthesia administration and surgical monitoring
  • Commitment to professional ethics and continuous learning
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to animal-related hazards
