About the position
The Equipment Operator position at TxDOT's Beaumont District involves performing complex transportation maintenance work using heavy equipment. The role is essential for maintaining roadways and ensuring safety through effective equipment operation and traffic control. The operator will work independently on assignments while also training other employees and coordinating daily work operations.
Responsibilities
- Assists with traffic control by placing and gathering cones, warning signs, and barricades.
- Operates light equipment such as front-end loaders, pneumatic rollers, and street sweepers.
- Operates complex heavy equipment including tractor-trailer haul trucks, motor graders, and large excavators.
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and minor repairs on equipment.
- May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work meets project specifications.
- Trains other employees on equipment operation and safety procedures.
- Coordinates equipment operations for daily work assignments.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- 1 year experience in maintenance and/or construction equipment operation.
- Valid driver's license and a valid Texas Commercial Driver's License for equipment operation.
