About the position

The Equipment Designer role at Mastech Digital involves designing and improving proprietary equipment for Direct Reduced Iron making plants. The position requires a strong background in engineering, particularly in mechanical design, and offers opportunities for growth within the construction and engineering domain.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize CAD software to create mechanical drawings for the basic and detailed engineering of steel plants.
  • Proficiently use Inventor, AutoCAD software, and related Autodesk products.
  • Develop detailed engineered drawing packages from conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas provided by engineers and designers.
  • Travel to plant sites to analyze existing equipment, ducting routes, and equipment layouts for future proposals.
  • Inspect mechanical equipment at fabrication facilities to ensure adherence to designs and tolerances.
  • Perform checking of mechanical equipment drawings for consistency with conceptual ideas and designs.
  • Assist senior designers and engineers by suggesting design changes to improve results.
  • Help with project documentation, including requisitions, specifications, quality documents, and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Collaborate with all company departments and employees on assignments to build consensus and find solutions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in equipment design or a related field.
  • Associate Degree in a mechanical discipline or equivalent hands-on experience in a technical environment.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Autodesk products.
  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task while meeting schedule and deliverable deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced 3D modeling skills and experience with Vault.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and list development for engineering.
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical and system calculations.
  • Experience coordinating design schedules with engineers.
  • Understanding of P&IDs for equipment design and system checking.
  • International travel experience.
  • Experience in an industrial plant setting.
  • Willingness to stay for extended periods at a plant site.
