About the position

The Environmental Specialist II position involves professional environmental public health work under the supervision of an Environmental Supervisor. The role includes conducting site inspections, project reviews, and investigations related to environmental health, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives within the Department of Health.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct basic application/project reviews and site inspections or surveys.
  • Review and prepare reports, correspondence, and legal notices.
  • Collect samples and perform data entry and analysis.
  • Investigate reported communicable diseases of environmental origin.
  • Perform site inspections of regulated facilities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Serve as Program Peer Reviewer for designated programs as team lead.
  • Assist in improvement projects to develop a culture of quality within the department.

Requirements

  • Current State of Florida employee.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or a physical or biological science.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Willingness to work emergency duty in special needs or Red Cross shelters.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Environmental Health Professional in Food Hygiene or Registered Sanitarian with Florida Environmental Health Association or National Environmental Health Association.
