About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This is a full-time position within the Environmental Services team, working evening shifts from 4:30 pm to 1:00 am, with rotating weekends and holidays. The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas for patients/residents, visitors, and associates by following infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines. Tasks include emptying waste baskets, sweeping, scrubbing, waxing, or polishing floors using various equipment. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment to provide a clean and sterile environment. Cleaning responsibilities may extend to patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas to meet health standards. The technician must wear proper protective equipment, keep storage and equipment stocked, clean, and tidy, and use pagers and other technology appropriately. There may be opportunities to assist in laundry areas and use technology applications depending on location and program availability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of six months housekeeping or commercial cleaning experience preferred.
  • Ability to use computer.
  • Prior cleaning experience is helpful.
  • Knowledge of materials, equipment, cleaning methods, and cleaning chemicals is helpful.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Previous custodial experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in patient/resident rooms and assigned areas.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and procedural guidelines.
  • Empty waste baskets.
  • Sweep, scrub, wax, or polish floors using brooms, mops, or powered scrubbing and waxing machines.
  • Apply knowledge of housekeeping processes, tools, and techniques in a healthcare environment.
  • Clean patient/resident rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other work areas.
  • Wear proper protective equipment following appropriate guidelines.
  • Keep storage, equipment, and carts well-stocked, clean, and tidy.
  • Use pagers and other technology appropriately when needed.
  • Assist in laundry areas as appropriate.
  • Use technology applications depending on location and availability of programs.
