About The Position

Totally Kids Rehabilitation Hospital has a position available for an Environmental Services (EVS) Technician. The Environmental Services (EVS) Technician is responsible for the safety and cleanliness of the hospital, Circlebrook, KidShip, corporate, and Kids 4 Ever house. This includes laundry, housekeeping, and janitorial tasks within each building of the organization. The EVS Technician contributes to the effective operations of the Environmental Services department by daily cleaning and supplying of patient/client rooms, treatment rooms, classrooms, restrooms, utility room, nursing stations, lounges, offices, waiting areas, and other areas as assigned in accordance with policies and guidelines. The EVS technician uses applicable cleaning equipment products and supplies in the performance of job responsibilities. The EVS technician monitors laundering machines to clean articles such as sheets, towels, rags, wiping cloths and filters clothes by sorting. Maintains a working knowledge of department standard operating procedures. This knowledge may include the use of specialized equipment, quality control requirements, and preventive maintenance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) month related experience and/or training in environmental services
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Must possess good work ethics and a professional image at all times
  • Knowledge of CMS conditions of participation, CDPH state regulations, CCS, and TJC (hospital, nursing care center, and laboratory) accreditation requirements as applicable to job
  • Working knowledge of computer and software applications as applicable to job
  • Possess strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Works responsibly in a team environment as well as independently
  • Manages confidential information effectively and appropriately

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and sanitizes patient rooms and departments utilizing the proper cleaning methods, equipment and chemicals. Including cleaning of bathrooms, walls, windows, doors, and floors
  • Empties trash/wastebaskets and transports to appropriate disposal area according to the policy
  • Assists with the distribution and storage of supplies
  • Secures the handling and transporting of medical waste
  • Recognizes, comprehends and follows the direction of designated signs, symbols, and written instructions
  • Cleans and organizes janitor closet per department and regulatory standards
  • Ensures janitor closet and carts are locked and secured at all times
  • Utilizes the appropriate chemicals, supplies, and cleaning techniques according to policy and manufacturers recommendation
  • Utilizes safety signs, WET FLOOR and barriers sections of floor for cleaning where applicable
  • Cleans and sanitizes offices and public areas utilizing the proper cleaning methods, equipment and chemicals Including cleaning of bathrooms, lobbies, corridors, stairways, walls, windows, doors, floors, and elevator
  • Maintains safety in the handling and transporting of soiled and clean linen according to policy
  • Bleaches specified articles according to formula
  • Understands correct use of pre-programmed cycles. Loads articles into washer and adds specified amount of detergent, soap, or other cleaning agent. Starts machine that automatically washes and rinses articles
  • Unloads wet articles from washer and places them into dryers for measured time cycles
  • Sorts dried articles according to the identification numbers or type. Folds and places items in appropriate storage bins
  • Sorts and counts articles to verify quantities on laundry lists
  • Records water, dryer and lint logs daily
  • Performs all assigned tasks in a professional manner
  • Completes work within designated time
  • Operates and maintains all equipment correctly and safely as applicable to job
  • Understands and reads equipment operation manuals as applicable to job
  • Replenishes supplies and notifies EVS supervisor when supplies need to be ordered
  • Participates in the training of new employees and offers guidance, assistance, and direction to less experienced personnel
  • Works days, evening, or nights as assigned
  • Attends at least 50% of staff meetings annually
  • Participates in department quality assurance performance improvement (QAPI) activities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current practice and the roles and functions of patient care team members as applicable to job
  • Ensures compliance with the state and federal regulatory agency standards, and policies of the organization
  • Adheres to professional association standards of practice as applicable to job
  • Supports the development of an organization-wide patient safety program
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Knowledge of the organizations quality assurance performance improvement (QAPI) program
