Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe and sanitary environment for visitors, patients, and employees.
  • Cleans and maintains facilities as directed, including responsibilities such as cleaning, removing trash, and exam room set up.
  • Maintains universal precautions to ensure patient and employee safety.
  • Safely handles and disposes of regulated medical waste and other trash.
  • Responsible for proper chemical usage and maintaining a safe environment, including storage of chemicals.
  • Facilitates patient care by meeting specific environmental requirements, including cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting surfaces in and around patient examination rooms.
  • Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Practices infection control isolation precautions according to Infection Control Isolation policies.
  • Checks facility and patient areas for equipment and returns to proper location.
  • Prepares cleaning solution according to written standards.
  • Properly disposes of infectious waste and soiled linens.
  • Reports any work-related injury according to Occupational Medicine: Employee Access and Blood-Borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan.
  • Safeguards all patient protected information according to HIPAA policies.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of patient/employee safety when carrying out daily responsibilities of position.
  • Performs isolation cleaning procedures as instructed in order to prohibit the spread of infection.
  • Other duties as assigned and may be required to work in other facilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Compassion for patients.
  • Proven ability to work with patients.
  • Proven working experience as a janitor/porter, housekeeping or environmental services.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Integrity and ability to work independently.
  • H.S. Diploma/GED.
