About the position

The Environmental Scientist/Geologist position at AECOM in Duluth, Minnesota, is a full-time role focused on supporting site investigation and remediation projects. The ideal candidate will contribute to existing projects and promote growth in new markets, demonstrating field project experience and a strong commitment to health and safety. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and a detail-oriented approach to project management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field activities including air, soil vapor, soil, groundwater, and sediment sample collection and geological logging and interpretation.
  • Manage tasks or projects and lead teams for field activities.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors to deliver services according to contract requirements and safety standards.
  • Gather and analyze geological and hydrogeological data in field and office settings.
  • Prepare written reports, work plans, remedial action plans, and site investigation reports.
  • Compile and analyze data, and develop supported conclusions for reports.
  • Perform independent fieldwork, oversee contractors, and interact with clients.
  • Utilize scientific principles and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems.
  • Interpret and record data, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Assist with landfill compliance monitoring and reporting.
  • Prepare Health and Safety Plans and identify hazards during field assignments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree or higher in Geological, Hydrogeological, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or related field.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License to visit project sites and other AECOM offices.
  • Pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the environmental remediation industry (private or public).
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility with working hours and locations; frequent travel within 1 - 2-hour drive of home office.
