About the position

Dewberry is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Biologist to join their team in California. The role involves conducting field surveys, preparing technical reports, and interacting with clients, with a focus on California's flora and fauna, particularly regarding threatened and endangered species. The position is hybrid, allowing for both in-office and remote work, and requires a strong background in environmental science and regulatory permitting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and/or oversee field surveys such as focused species surveys, aquatic resources delineations, and habitat assessments
  • Conduct and/or oversee construction monitoring efforts, including worker training
  • Prepare technical reports such as biological resources evaluations, aquatic resources delineations, mitigation plans, and annual monitoring reports
  • Prepare biological resources sections of CEQA and NEPA documents
  • Prepare regulatory permit application packages
  • Prepare Biological Assessments and Incidental Take Permit applications for threatened/endangered species permitting
  • Assist with mentoring and training of junior staff
  • Interact with clients

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Biology, Natural Resources, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience, transportation emphasis a bonus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with critical timelines
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (e.g., Word, Teams, Excel, Projects), Adobe Acrobat, ArcGIS Pro
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with threatened/endangered species and regulatory permitting
  • Experience working with ArcGIS Pro and Field Maps
  • Experience with transportation (Caltrans) and water infrastructure projects
  • Experience with staff development, proposal preparation, and project management
