About the position
Assist journeyman in planning, lay-out and installing forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts for installation of concrete structures in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble and install forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts.
- Construct built-in-place or prefabricated wooden forms, according to specifications for molding concrete structures.
- Erect built-in-place forms or assemble and install prefabricated forms.
- Insert spreaders and tie-rods between opposite pieces to maintain specific dimensions.
- Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects using nails, bolts, anchor rods, steel cables, planks and timber.
- Build wooden structures such as scaffold supports and frame shelters according to specifications.
- Help pour concrete into finished forms to specified textures; vibrate, level, smooth and shape surface of concrete.
- Finish concrete surfaces to specifications.
- Remove rough or defective spots from concrete surfaces using power grinder or chisel and hammer.
- Patch holes with fresh concrete or epoxy compound.
- Install all other items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications.
- Participate in all safety related processes and programs as requested.
- Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries.
- Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional.
- Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
- Participate in all pre-job work planning and safety discussions.
- Identify safety hazards and take necessary corrective action.
- Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
- Attend site specific training and assure you follow all procedures as outlined in training.
- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.
- Listen to co-workers suggestions, safety concerns, and recommendations.
- Coordinate work with other crafts and co-workers on the job.
- Actively participate in on-the-job training and mentoring opportunities.
- Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
- Learn to read and understand plans and specifications.
- Assist in planning, installing and/or repair structures in accordance with those plans and specifications.
- Assist journeymen in laying out work and learn to perform layout independently.
- Notify supervision of any hazards observed.
- Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures.
- If certified to operate equipment ensure that construction equipment is correctly operated and maintained.
Requirements
- Experience working in the carpenter craft or a similar craft as a helper or laborer.
- Basic knowledge of the carpenter craft.
- Developing knowledge of industrial carpenter's craft including fabrication and erection of forms.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Must have all necessary tools.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements.
