About the position

The Environmental Permitting Specialist at AECOM will be responsible for leading and managing environmental permitting processes in the Mid-Atlantic region, particularly focusing on New Jersey. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, preparing permit applications, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The position offers opportunities for career growth within a collaborative interdisciplinary team, contributing to projects that have a significant impact on the environment and community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead preliminary desktop assessments of potential permitting requirements for proposed projects.
  • Develop detailed permit matrices composed of applicable federal/state/local environmental regulations.
  • Originate strategies for obtaining Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404/401 permitting and other necessary permits.
  • Coordinate and lead due diligence desktop and field-based site investigations.
  • Conduct aquatic resources delineation and prepare reporting for USACE Approved Jurisdictional Determination.
  • Perform T&E species habitat assessments and coordinate with subcontractors and agencies.
  • Prepare and manage permit applications for various environmental permits.
  • Lead task management according to approved scopes of work, ensuring quality deliverables on schedule and within budget.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors and vendors.
  • Assist Senior Managers with business development activities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in environmental permitting, particularly in New Jersey and federal permits.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ecological assessments for natural gas, electric utilities, and renewables industries.
  • Proficiency in Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Technical writing experience for siting studies or NEPA analysis.
