About the position

The Environmental Permitting Specialist at AECOM will be responsible for managing and directing environmental permitting processes, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic region, with a focus on New Jersey. This role involves coordinating with various stakeholders, preparing permit applications, and conducting ecological assessments to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Responsibilities

  • Leading preliminary desktop assessments of potential permitting requirements for proposed projects.
  • Leading development of detailed permit matrices composed of applicable federal/state/local environmental regulations.
  • Leading development of strategy for obtaining Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 404/401 permitting and other permits.
  • Coordinating and leading due diligence desktop and field-based site investigations.
  • Conducting aquatic resources delineation and preparing reports for USACE Approved Jurisdictional Determination.
  • Performing T&E species habitat assessments and coordinating with subcontractors and agencies.
  • Coordinating and reviewing cultural resources investigations and reporting.
  • Preparing permit applications and managing their review and processing.
  • Leading task management according to approved scopes of work and delivering quality deliverables on schedule.
  • Coordinating conversations with clients and various governmental agencies.
  • Managing subcontractors and vendors.
  • Serving as a technical lead for environmental, biological, permitting, and other impact assessments.
  • Assisting Senior Managers with business development activities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Environmental Studies, Biology, or related field +6 years of experience or equivalent education/experience.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • US Citizenship required.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6+ years of completing NJ and federal permits in accordance with regulations.
  • Project task management experience with oversight of staff/subcontractors and budget.
  • Proficiency in permit application preparation in NJ and other mid-Atlantic states.
  • Demonstrable technical writing and deliverable development experience.
  • Experience in performing ecological assessments for natural gas, electric utilities, and/or renewables industries.
  • Technical writing experience for siting studies, FERC resource reports, or NEPA analysis preferred.
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) background or knowledge.
  • Driver's license with trailer certification; boat transportation/operation/maintenance experience.
  • Safety training (i.e., OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hours).
