About The Position

Excellent Career Opportunity County of San Diego - Department of Environmental Health and Quality ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN. This position is eligible for appointment at step 1, $55,536.00 annually. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5. Future Salary Increases: June 2026 – 4.93% increase to base pay (3.5% Across-the-Board + 1.43% Market Adjustment), June 2027 – 4.43% increase to base pay (3.0% Across-the-Board + 1.43% Market Adjustment). The County of San Diego is currently accepting job applications for Environmental Health Technician in the Department of Environmental Health and Quality (DEHQ). This is the paraprofessional level class in the Environmental Health Specialist series. The eligible list will be used to fill current vacancies in the Vector Control Program and Food, Water, Housing Division (FWHD). However, the list may also be used to fill future vacancies in other Divisions within DEHQ. Environmental Health Technicians assist professional staff in the enforcement of environmental health compliance measures and perform technical tasks related to environmental health regulatory activities.

Requirements

• An associate of science degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in biology, microbiology, zoology, chemistry, or a closely related field; OR, One (1) year of laboratory experience performing semi-technical tests on specimens and reagents; OR, One (1) year of experience as a Vector Control Technician Aide in the County of San Diego; OR, Two (2) years of experience providing direct support in a technical environmental health field.
