About the position

Your previous experience in an Environmental, Health & Safety role and ability to partner with the plant management group to drive a culture of safety will make you a success in this EHS role at our La Porte, IN plant. You will be responsible for monitoring working & environmental conditions to ensure that all activities are compliant with state and federal safety & environmental regulations. You will be responsible for ensuring company health, safety and environmental guidelines are followed, inspecting workspace conditions to ensure they meet safety standards & provide workplace safety training. As an EHS professional, you will ensure environmental compliance of the facility with respect to all applicable air, water, and waste environmental regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees Forklift and Crane compliance & training program.
  • Maintains training certification, recertification and daily inspection records.
  • Ensures proper training of employees on safety and health requirements and policies to ensure compliance.
  • Chairs the Safety Committee and conducts monthly meetings.
  • Observes plant activities and conditions.
  • Regularly monitors for health and safety policy violations.
  • Enforces prescribed use of safety equipment (such as PPE) and the proper application of required safety procedures.
  • Ensures regulatory safety compliance & implements required improvements; recommends changes to current safety policies and procedures.
  • Administers New Hire Safety Orientation to all new associates.
  • Maintain OSHA logs & reporting.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of Emergency Response Plans (ERP) and updates the plans as needed per regulatory requirements.
  • Manages and conducts quarterly safety audits of facility safety related items.
  • Owns the accurate documentation of these inspections in the maintenance management system.
  • In the event of injury inducing incidents, manages emergency medical treatment, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Works in conjunction with local management to investigate incidents and spills and preparing reports; ensures proper dissemination of reports.
  • Maintains tracking of incidents for management and issues summary reports.
  • Works in conjunction with local management to identify potential causes for accidents and recommends changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents.
  • Acts as liaison between corporate EHS management team & local facility management.
  • Maintains all safety-related documentation (meeting minutes, drill logs, certification records, training records, policies, etc.) and updates regularly in order to meet all potential audit requirements.
  • Assist in gathering information in response to OSHA or other regulatory agency requests received utilizing all available resources.
  • In the event of I/OSHA inspection events, acts as the lead participant.
  • Provides and administers weekly safety briefing topics and resources for plant supervisors.
  • Manages, tracks, and directs the Health and Safety Managements System for the facility and provides support to management.
  • Develops productive personal relationships with employees at all levels to affect positive safety behavioral and cultural changes.
  • Oversees the wastewater treatment plant operations & ensures compliance with treated effluent permitted parameters.
  • Prepares and submits wastewater Discharge Monitoring Reports.
  • Ensures all air pollution control equipment are operated properly.
  • Prepares and submits Quarterly/Semi-Annual monitoring reports, and Annual Air Permit Compliance Certification to the state.
  • Ensures paint VOC/HAP information is entered properly in the AS400 database to facilitate accurate reporting of VOC and HAP emissions.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating SPCC/SWPPP.
  • Prepares and submits Tier II Reports, Hazardous Waste Reports, TRI reports, Annual Emissions Inventory Reports.
  • Is familiar with Large Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator regulations, ensures hazardous waste containers are properly marked, labeled, and dated, performs weekly 90-Day hazardous waste storage area inspections, coordinates hazardous waste pick-up and disposal, ensures hazardous waste manifests are filled out properly.
  • Responsible for used Oil and Universal Waste Management.
  • Ensures used oil containers are properly labeled and closed, ensured universal waste containers are properly managed, labeled, and dated with accumulation start date.
  • Perform Opacity/Stormwater/SPCC inspections.
  • Responsible for the management of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Must be able to write and update Environmental Operating Procedures.
  • Conducts Quarterly Environmental Management Committee Meetings.
  • Develops and communicates statistical trend analysis to the management team and coordinates the action plans and response to address the findings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in in the area of safety and/or environmental management, manufacturing, engineering or similar preferred.
  • 3 plus years’ experience in workplace EHS management.
  • Experience in health, safety, and environmental in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience with coil coating, metals and manufacturing preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety guidelines for the workplace.
  • Knowledge of CAA, CWA, RCRA, and SPCC regulations.
  • Familiar with ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
  • Able to read and interpret OSHA documents and internal policies.
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication.
