About the position

The Environmental Service Aide II position at Brigham & Women's Hospital is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in various hospital areas, including critical care environments. This role involves performing specialized cleaning tasks beyond the daily routine, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff. The aide will work evening shifts and is expected to handle physical demands associated with cleaning and sanitizing duties.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, sanitizes, and polishes environmental surfaces according to departmental and hospital policies.
  • Cleans horizontal and vertical surfaces in patient rooms, lavatories, offices, corridors, and other areas.
  • Uses various chemicals and equipment for cleaning tasks, including germicidal detergent and floor machines.
  • Empties and relines soiled laundry, waste, and RMW containers according to procedures.
  • Cleans and prepares post-discharge patient rooms as per department procedures.
  • Removes and re-hangs window and cubicle curtains periodically.
  • Uses mechanical equipment to clean and maintain hard-surface flooring and carpets.
  • Moves furniture and equipment using dollies and hand carts.
  • Reports dysfunctional equipment to the supervisor and secures it against unauthorized use.

Requirements

  • Basic ability to speak and understand English (oral and written).
  • Physical ability to bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to lift in excess of 50lbs several times per shift.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions in cleaning tasks.
  • Ability to operate and control high-powered cleaning equipment.
  • Moderate level of verbal communication skills to interact with patients and staff.
