About the position

The Entry-Level Structural Engineer position at AECOM is designed for recent graduates to support the Water, Structures Department in either the New Orleans or Houston office. This role focuses on applying engineering techniques to design, analyze, and inspect water infrastructure and ancillary structures. The position is part of AECOM's Graduate Development Program, which aids in technical development and career progression towards licensure. The expected start date for this role is in January or June 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.
  • Perform assignments related to the design, analysis, rehabilitation, and inspection of water infrastructure and ancillary structures.
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Exercise judgment limited to developing work details in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives.
  • Prepare engineering-related designs, calculations, sketches, visual aids, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule under the supervision of an experienced engineer.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).
  • Academic track with a structural engineering concentration is highly desirable.
  • 1-2 cycles of relevant internship experience in the execution of structural design projects is a plus.
  • Capable of using spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.
  • Basic knowledge of industry-standard computer software for the position (examples include AutoCAD, MicroStation, STAAD, and MathCad).
  • Experience or education in reinforced concrete and steel design.
  • Team-oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License is required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
