About the position
The Entry-Level Structural Engineer position at Sargent & Lundy offers a unique opportunity for recent graduates to apply their academic knowledge in a professional setting. This role involves collaborating with a multidisciplinary team on the design of new nuclear facilities and modifications to existing plants. The engineer will engage in various responsibilities, including structural analysis, design calculations, and specification development, while receiving mentorship from experienced professionals.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers and designers on the design of nuclear facilities and modifications.
- Prepare design calculations and develop specifications for projects.
- Support designers with drawing development using state-of-the-art computer tools.
- Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations.
- Conduct structural analyses considering loading conditions such as wind and seismic.
- Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and site locations for construction coordination.
Requirements
- BS degree in Civil Engineering or MSCE from an ABET-accredited program.
- Strong academic background in materials behavior, structural analysis, and design.
- Knowledge of structural engineering principles and techniques for project design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training.
- Experience in writing support documentation for Structural Engineering calculations.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software such as MathCad, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
- Knowledge of design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, N690, ACI 318, and ACI 349.
