About The Position

The Enterprise Systems Administrator administers and protects the integrity of network-related systems, setting up and monitoring secure environments, as well as reviewing system utilization and addressing performance issues in compliance with the County's Information Security Policy and Information Technology standards. The Administrator must possess a high level of experience and proficiency to interact with customer needs over the phone, through remote tools or in person. The Enterprise Systems Administrator must enter work orders and follow up on work orders in the Help Desk system. The Administrators monitors various network, application and security systems, makes recommendations for improved processes related to network infrastructure, and safeguards files through approved backups and disaster preparedness. This position supports and maintains systems and infrastructure critical to County operations, including public safety communications, 9-1-1 infrastructure, emergency response systems, and continuity of essential services. This position is deemed essential and may be required to work during inclement weather, natural disaster, other emergency situations and/or when the County offices are officially closed due to inclement weather, natural disaster, other emergency situations, etc. This position may be required to work off its normal shift.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related field, and a minimum of five (5) years experience in Information Technology field or an equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the required knowledge, skills, ability, education, and experience adding up to nine (9) years.
  • Applicable knowledge of and ability to complete job responsibilities under privacy guidelines such as the County Information Security Policy, HIPAA and CJIS.
  • Understanding of the importance of maintaining secure, reliable, and highly available systems which support essential County operations and public safety functions.
  • Ability to maintain a strong customer service focus while providing technical support and IT services.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft desktop operating systems, Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); and possess the computer skills to learn software programs quickly.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory Users and Computers tools.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft System Center operations, reporting, and compliancy tools
  • Familiarity with VMware virtualization technologies and server infrastructure concepts.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, remote access technologies, endpoint security practices, and enterprise infrastructure support.
  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks; possess strong organizational skills and attention to details skills; and the ability to maintain flexibility to multitask as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, peers, and policy-making bodies within the County.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in both appearance and interpersonal interactions with end users, stakeholders, and IT personnel.
  • A valid driver’s license and criminal background check are required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex network administrative functions including, but not limited to, domain management, email systems, VPN, server administration, and support of systems critical to County operations and public safety communications.
  • Implements security standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with County and regulatory requirements.
  • Installs and supports network-based applications and enterprise systems.
  • Develops and maintains group, computer, and password policies.
  • Performs security reviews and assessments for the IT department and other County agencies.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains routers, switches, wireless systems, and other network infrastructure equipment.
  • Creates and implements compliance rules for various information systems.
  • Ensures authorized access by investigating improper access attempts and reporting violations or security concerns.
  • Reviews information requests related to new programming, system implementations, infrastructure changes, or operational technology enhancements.
  • Assists in maintaining the reliability and availability of infrastructure supporting essential County services, emergency operations, and continuity of government functions.
  • Determines customer issues by gathering information, analyzing symptoms, troubleshooting systems, and developing resolutions.
  • Follows established service level agreements, properly updates work orders, and documents work order resolutions.
  • Handles problems and escalated issues using remote access tools when possible.
  • Updates permissions, resets network passwords, and maintains user account information.
  • Provides customers with current status updates on work orders and service requests.
  • Participates in after-hours maintenance, emergency response activities, system restoration efforts, and operational support as required.
  • Identifies, recommends, and assists with improvements to enterprise systems, endpoint management, infrastructure reliability, operational efficiency, and end-user support processes.
  • Assists with technology initiatives and operational improvements that enhance resiliency, security, and continuity of essential County services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
