About the position

The ENL Teacher at Hamilton County Schools is responsible for teaching English language skills to students, ensuring they achieve success in all content areas at grade level. This role involves planning and delivering instruction aligned with state and federal standards, developing individualized instructional plans, and fostering a supportive classroom environment. The teacher will also engage with families and the community to enhance student learning and participate in professional development to improve teaching practices.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English using TN Academic and WIDA English Language Development Standards.
• Develop and deliver lesson plans utilizing differentiated techniques and strategies for language learners.
• Screen potential English learners using the WIDA Screener and communicate results to parents.
• Administer academic and language assessments to evaluate student progress.
• Maintain accurate records of students' progress and evidence of growth.
• Develop individualized instructional plans for each student (LLIP).
• Collaborate with general education teachers on scheduling, instruction, modifications, and assessment.
• Provide a nurturing and positive learning environment with high expectations.
• Facilitate effective home-school communication through conferences and written communication.
• Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) to improve teaching and student learning.

Requirements

• Fluency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English.
• Commitment to high academic achievement and expectations for all students.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, students, and families.
• Openness to coaching and receiving feedback for student growth.
• Professionalism with high personal standards and integrity.
• Valid state of Tennessee teaching certification in ESOL (K-12) or enrollment in an accredited teacher preparation program.
• Bachelor's degree.
