About the position

AAM is looking for an Engineering Technician to join our Metal Forming team in Royal Oak, Michigan. The Engineering Technician leads the design, testing, installation, and maintenance of large-scale electronic equipment or machinery for use in manufacturing. Applications are broad and varied, requiring inclusion of technical and business context, and solving of non-routine problems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, installs, replaces, or rebuilds a diverse range of industrial manufacturing equipment and systems.
  • Programs, edits, troubleshoots, and wires logical controllers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and components on production machines and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and calibrates various types of electrical, electronic, and induction heating equipment.
  • Handles maintenance and repair of electrical systems for both facility and production equipment, including wiring in accordance with code.
  • Safely operates the articulated boom and scissor lift, ascends stairs, and works on elevated mezzanines.
  • Evaluates control systems, products, components, and applications.
  • Evaluates new manufacturing and control technologies, adapting into specifications as appropriate.
  • Confirms control system functionality, including appropriate safety compliance, by designing and/or executing test procedures.
  • Prepares and/or reviews electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls drawings; collaborates with related engineering teams to evaluate components, materials, and suppliers.
  • Ensures integrity of process and build data collection.
  • Provides information to manufacturing, process, and other engineering disciplines by answering questions and requests.
  • Keeps equipment operating by performing periodic audits; troubleshooting breakdowns; requesting supplies; defining and reviewing preventive maintenance plans; calling for repairs; and implementing process improvements.
  • Maintains project documents using approved methodology, tools, and templates.
  • Manages supplier development and delivery.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience as an industrial electrician or controls engineer.
  • Experience working in a union manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in the automotive industry.
