About The Position

SAIC is looking for an Engineering Technician V to support CAC2S-Afloat systems and in Bedford, IN. To be covered by these definitions, employees must meet all of the following criteria: Be able to provide semi-professional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement. Work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment. These technicians are required to have some practical knowledge of science or engineering. Some positions may require a practical knowledge of mathematics or computer science. Included are workers who prepare design drawings and assist with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment. The Engineering Technician V performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of relatively limited scope or a portion of a larger and more diverse project, selects and adapts plans, techniques, designs, or layouts, contacts personnel in related activities to resolve problems and coordinate the work, reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical work of others. Supervisor or professional engineer outlines objectives, requirements, and design approaches. Completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements. This incumbent may train and be assisted by lower level technicians, and performs one or a combination of the following: Designs, develops, and constructs major units, devices, or equipment; conducts tests or experiments; analyzes results and redesigns or modifies equipment to improve performance; and reports results. From general guidelines and specifications (e.g., size or weight requirements), develops designs for equipment without critical performance requirements that are difficult to satisfy such as engine parts, research instruments, or special purpose circuitry. Analyzes technical data to determine applicability to design problems; selects from several possible design layouts; calculates design data; and prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts lists, estimates, procedures, etc. May check and analyze drawings or equipment to determine adequacy of drawings and design. Plans or assists in planning tests to evaluate equipment performance. Determines test requirements, equipment modification, and test procedures; conducts tests using all types of instruments; analyzes and evaluates test results, and prepares reports on findings and recommendations.

  • Support software and network device test events, documenting issues and corrective actions taken; updating procedures based on test results.
  • Fabrication, Repair, & Assembly of Multi-pin, Cat 5/6, and Coaxial Connectors.
  • Testing & Verification of electronic systems and assemblies.
  • Analysis & Problem Solving.
  • Diagnose, Troubleshoot and Repair of electronic assemblies.
  • Quality Control Inspections.
  • Research CAC2S-Afloat parts and provide alternatives that meet DOD/ DON and other Mil Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge in the use of electronics test equipment.
  • Ability to read and provide input to electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Provide on-site technical support for fielding efforts, engineering support (upgrades, installations, etc..), test events.
  • Provide a wide range of technical services which includes: Engineering, Documentation Development and Maintenance, Configuration Management, Test Support, and Equipment Level Repair.
  • Production of equipment racks including mounting kit removal and installation, power requirements, and cable installation. Modification of mounting equipment or design and fabrication of adapters for engineering evaluation.
  • Performs Administrative Duties as required, including writing Work Instructions or Work Cards, Cable Termination Records, Daily Status Reports, and others as requested.
  • Verifies proper cable removal and installation, termination and testing, and post-checks on equipment in conjunction with system/equipment discrepancies/deficiencies discovered during acceptance tests and/or installation.
  • Ensures the proper integration and operation of individual equipment per the Technical Manual, Military / DOD / DON Specifications.
  • Evaluation of Technical Manuals, Drawings, Test Plans, procedures, etc. and provide feedback.
  • Coordinates the post-testing, troubleshooting, and repair of any equipment or cabling failures prior to the preparation, loading and packing of the Communications and Data Processing racks for safe delivery to the installing authority.
  • Maintenance of CAC2S-Afloat Lab Equipment Racks and associated cabling.
  • Communicate daily with Government and other team members to ensure support requirements are being supported properly.
