About the position

The Engineering Technician II position at Terracon involves performing field and laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials such as soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and steel. The role requires effective communication with project managers, engineering technicians, and other stakeholders regarding project requirements and testing results. The technician will also be responsible for transporting material samples, preparing reports, maintaining equipment, and adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform field and/or laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials.
• Communicate with project manager, engineering technicians, client representatives, and contractors regarding project requirements and testing results.
• Transport material samples to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
• Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports for daily transmittal to the Project Manager.
• Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
• Assist with scheduling and dispatch of Technicians to project sites as needed.
• Follow safety rules and practices, performing pre-task planning before executing work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1-2 years of relevant experience or equivalent training and related experience.
• Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
• ACI certification in Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I or Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
• Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
• Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

Nice-to-haves

• NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing in categories such as Asphalt, Concrete, Soils.
• NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical in categories like Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist.
• ICC certification in categories such as Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel - Bolting, Structural Steel - Welding.
• American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
• American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in areas like Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT).
