About the position

Provides supervisory support and leadership to assist in the overall management and direction of the Engineering department. Assists in the coordination of all issues involving the Engineering department (maintenance and grounds) in providing and maintaining a safe environment for the wellbeing of patients, visitors, and staff on one of the main hospital campuses. Ensure that the department's operations are effective, efficient, and in compliance with all appropriate regulatory agencies. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operating and driving Children's vehicles throughout the organization as needed and to specified vendors or sites based on operational needs.
  • Assists the Engineering Manager in providing training, leadership, and staff development.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining all work schedules, issuing work orders, and ensuring the timely and professional completion of all tasks.
  • Assists in the establishment of maintenance benchmarks and measurable outcomes on various departmental processes, including staff performance measurements.
  • Checks and maintains required record of all necessary equipment readings, ensuring that all equipment is operated and maintained at optimum efficiency and in compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Assists the Engineering Manager in coordinating an efficient energy management program.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures and measurable goals and objectives for the department.
  • Assumes the functions of a mechanic whenever necessary.
  • Manage the day to day operations of the staff, including but not limited to: work assignments, task management, time tracking/management, and on-the-job training.
  • Take an active role in coaching and mentoring the team to ensure continued employee growth and success both on the team and at the broader CHOA organization.
  • Assist manager with employee performance evaluations and hiring decisions.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience in general maintenance related to building systems and equipment as found in a hospital.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license and insurable driving record (exception: Hughes Spalding campus).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in two or more fields among electricity, plumbing, heating/ventilation/air conditioning, and commercial carpentry.
  • Knowledge of building, life safety, and National Fire Protection Association codes.
  • Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
