About the position

The purpose of this position is to provide supervision over the engineering office in the Huron Area Office. The office is responsible for preliminary design, survey, construction inspection, material testing, project documentation and contract administration. The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for coordinating resources and directing the staff; determines the need and acquires additional resources through consulting engineers and seasonal employees; ensures training and certification of staff; works closely with the public, contractors, other government entities and other DOT offices; serves as the technical expert for construction related issues; resolves contractor disputes; interprets plans and specifications; and addresses personnel issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide supervision over the engineering office in the Huron Area Office.
  • Coordinate resources and direct staff.

  • Ensure training and certification of staff.
  • Work closely with the public, contractors, other government entities, and other DOT offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Possess or be eligible to obtain an FE or PE license.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and practices as they relate to highway construction.
  • Knowledge of standard specifications for roads and bridges.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing highways.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures regarding personnel and construction.
