ABOUT AUSTIN WATER For over 100 years, Austin Water has been committed to providing safe, reliable, high-quality, and affordable water services to our customers. Today, we serve over 1,000,000 people in the Austin metropolitan area, across more than 548 square miles. The utility draws water from the Colorado River into three regional water treatment plants, Hancox, Davis, and Ullrich, which have a combined capacity of 335 million gallons per day. Austin Water has two wastewater treatment plants, Walnut Creek and South Austin Regional, that can treat up to 150 million gallons per day of sewage. Wastewater is treated to produce high-quality effluent, which is safely returned to the Colorado River to augment environmental flows. More than a billion gallons of this high-quality effluent are reclaimed each year for outdoor irrigation, industrial cooling, manufacturing, and other uses. Austin Water consistently ranks among the best in the country for water quality. We also treat, return, and recycle wastewater in ways that protect environmental resources. Austin Water exceeds federal and state requirements for clean water and environmental compliance at our water and wastewater treatment plants. Job Description: Temporary Engineering Associate B Purpose: Under the general direction of a Professional Engineer, this position performs a variety of moderately complex engineering projects/assignments that are non-routine in nature and may deviate from standard practices; exercises judgment within defined methods, procedures, and practices. Duties, Functions, and Responsibilities: Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Reviews plans under the supervision of a Professional Engineer by reviewing plans and development proposals for impacts and performing preliminary and final designs and/or preparing design criteria for assigned projects. Performs routine computerized software programs, ink, or pencil drafting of drawings and maps. Develops, analyzes, and generates technical reports by preparing a variety of reports, correspondence, and official documents. Researches, investigates, and responds to the appropriate agency by coordinating and cooperating with other agencies, departments, divisions, and private utilities involved in or affected by project(s). Meets with community groups and representatives of other agencies and City departments to discuss current or proposed projects. Participates in presentations, special projects, and assignments as directed. Inspects and monitors projects for legal compliance by reviewing contractors' work and verifying compliance with specifications. Assists in the preparation of preliminary, periodic, and final estimates of quantities, materials, equipment, labor, and facilities for the preparation of budgets, programs, schedules, partial and final contract payments, and other purposes for various projects. Performs inventory control and procurement duties, develops plans, designs, specifications, and instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of traffic signals, signing, lighting, pavement markings, and design standards. Conducts field inspections of work done by contractors to ensure compliance with plans and specifications. Drafts and recommends approval of contract change orders and payments. Contacts include inter- and intra-departmental administrative, engineering, and construction personnel; other government agencies; contractors; consultants; and the public to exchange information, coordinate work, answer questions, and respond to complaints. Knowledge of diversified, fundamental scientific and civil engineering concepts, phenomena, and relationships. Knowledge of mathematical techniques such as trigonometry, calculus, and coordinate geometry. Knowledge of modern methods, materials, and techniques of the assigned discipline. Knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines: Civil, Environmental, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, and/or Electrical engineering terminology and techniques. Knowledge of City purchasing and contract policies and procedures. Knowledge of leadership roles and responsibilities. Knowledge of the applicability of established civil engineering principles and methods. Knowledge of Various phases of the plan review and inspection processes. Knowledge of various computer software programs. Knowledge of the preparation of cost estimates. Skill in oral and written technical and/or general communication. Ability to perform more complex engineering computations, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry rapidly and accurately. Ability to read and update quarter-section maps. Ability to read and comprehend simple specifications, plans, and shop drawings. Ability to interpret and make decisions in conformance with established policies and practices. Ability to communicate and provide direction to peers and assigned personnel. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years of related experience. Experience may be substituted for education up to a maximum of four (4) years. Licenses and Certifications Required: Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment. Notes to Candidate: Austin Water is seeking an Engineer Associate B for the Pipeline Engineering and Operations Support Division (PEOS). This position will perform a combination of office and field tasks. The successful candidate will help PEOS track SSO causes and resolutions. Provide operational support as needed in the field, INFOR (database) data retrieval and analysis, and contractual support as needed. The successful candidate will also take part in AW's SSO response on-call rotation, which will require work outside of normal business hours, at night and on weekends. Critical Employee: This position has been designated as critical for the City of Austin. Critical positions are necessary and support activities that impact City or department operations. Work can be done at a designated work site or an alternate work location. Critical employees may be reassigned to another area to provide essential services during extraordinary situations or emergencies. Pay Rate: $29.89 - $37.37 per hour. Position(s) will be filled at the following location: 2600 Webberville Road, Austin, Texas 78702 Days and Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with the potential for a hybrid work schedule, pending manager approval. Other hours as business needs require. Requirements

Graduation with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus two (2) years of related experience.
Experience may be substituted for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
