About the position

The Engineering Assistant II or III position at TxDOT's Fort Worth District is designed for recent engineering graduates seeking to build their skills and gain valuable engineering experience. This role involves participating in a structured training program that includes job rotation across various engineering disciplines, with the goal of preparing for professional engineering licensing. The position offers opportunities for career advancement and emphasizes work-life balance, making it an ideal starting point for a long-term career in engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced and specialized engineering design work.
  • Prepare for professional engineering licensing/registration through training and exams.
  • Apply engineering principles to transportation-related activities.
  • Participate in the Engineering Assistants Career Development Program.
  • Perform engineering-related duties in the field of transportation engineering.
  • Conduct research and problem-solving for engineering-related issues.
  • Prepare and check plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) and designs.
  • Train less experienced engineering assistants, specialists, and technicians (for Engineering Assistant III).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
  • 1 year of engineering-related experience for Engineering Assistant II; 2 years for Engineering Assistant III.
  • Valid driver's license required for driving a state vehicle.
  • Texas Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in engineering may substitute for a Bachelor's degree.
  • Passing the Professional Engineer (PE) exam may substitute for two years of engineering experience.
