About the position

The Engineer - Protection & Control position at AVANGRID Service Company involves the design, configuration, maintenance, and renewal of automation and protection & control equipment subsystems for the electric delivery infrastructure in New England and New York. The role is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of AVANGRID's extensive electric delivery system, which includes approximately 8,600 miles of transmission lines and 1,000 substations. The engineer will collaborate with various departments and external contractors to complete projects while adhering to regulatory standards and engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design, estimating, and analysis of electric transmission and substation protection systems.
• Review and approve work of engineering contractors to ensure compliance with company standards and specifications.
• Analyze distribution fault event operations and develop fault analysis reports for management.
• Manage compliance programs applicable to substation assets and act as a subject matter expert during audits.
• Travel to worksites as needed.

Requirements

• 2-5 years of experience in Engineering or a minimum of 1 year in Protection & Control and 1 year of engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering / Technology; MS in Engineering preferred.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam preferred.
• Knowledge of power system analysis and fundamentals of equipment protection.
• Experience with power system protection applications such as ASPEN OneLiner and ASPEN Line Database.
• Knowledge of IEC-61850 standards and FERC/NERC/NPCC regulations.
