About the position

The Engineer III, Wireless Network RF position at GCI Communication Corp. involves applying engineering principles to design wireless network coverage, configure wireless networks, and integrate and commission wireless sites for optimal performance and capacity. The role requires expertise in 5G, LTE, UMTS/HSPA, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi, and CDMA/EFDO radio networks. The engineer will support internal business units engaged in site development, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems in field installations. Responsibilities include advanced monitoring of radio network Key Performance Indicators (KPI), troubleshooting site network problems, and ensuring regulatory compliance with FCC regulations. The engineer will also perform complex design and analysis of networks, mentor junior engineers, and may lead a team on specific projects. Occasional travel to remote sites within Alaska is required, but 100% telecommuting is permitted from anywhere in the U.S. as per GCI policy.

Responsibilities

  • Design wireless network coverage and configure wireless networks.
  • Integrate and commission wireless sites for optimal performance and capacity.
  • Monitor and review radio network Key Performance Indicators (KPI).
  • Participate in the development of inter and intra team processes for system performance.
  • Troubleshoot site network problems and assist with determining the cause of faulty equipment.
  • Perform coverage design, capacity, and performance activities.
  • Ensure regulatory and zoning compliance with federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • Lead a team of engineers on specific projects.
  • Review and provide final engineering design specifications and service requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers for technical growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Electrical/Electronic/Telecommunications Engineering or related field.
  • 6 years of experience in an RF engineering-related occupation.
  • Experience in telecommunications and the wireless industry.
  • Knowledge of RF propagation principles, cellular theory, and RF engineering tools.
  • Experience with Ericsson GSM/CDMA/UMTS/HSPA/LTE/5G platforms and product lines.
  • Familiarity with Ericsson OSS, ENM, EPP ENIQ STATS, and ENIQ EVENTS.
  • Experience with RF propagation/prediction tools such as Atoll.
  • Experience with drive test validation tools such as TEMS Discovery/Investigation.
