About the position

The Superintendent II position at Mortenson is a key role within the Energy Storage Group, responsible for overseeing construction projects with a focus on coordination, planning, and supervision. The role requires strong leadership skills to manage assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities while ensuring adherence to project schedules and safety standards. The ideal candidate will possess excellent problem-solving abilities and customer service skills, contributing to the development of positive relationships with clients and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coordination, planning, and supervision to assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities.
  • Review construction documents for completeness and constructability.
  • Coordinate plans and specifications with design engineers, resolving discrepancies.
  • Participate in the development and management of project schedules, including three and six-week look-ahead schedules.
  • Develop a site logistics plan and lead the utilization of Mortenson tools and equipment.
  • Conduct on-site project orientations and effective pre-construction planning sessions.
  • Supervise project partners, craft foreman, and crews, ensuring high performance and safety standards.
  • Mentor and evaluate the performance of Assistant Superintendents, General Foremen, and Foremen.
  • Manage and track work progress and craft productivity, ensuring timely task coding of work hours on timecards.
  • Recognize and mitigate unfavorable working conditions and seek opportunities to improve processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum eight years of construction experience, with at least two years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with large utility projects preferred.
  • Utilities and Energy Storage industry experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive professional attitude.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in inverter and DC battery technology preferred but not required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management.
