About the position

Join the growing BILH team as an Endoscopy Scheduler, where you're not just taking a job, but making a difference in people's lives. This position is key to the endoscopy booking process for patients requiring procedures. Under the general direction of the Clinic Manager, you will perform duties related to the endoscopy scheduling process, including interviewing patients to obtain their procedure preference dates and special considerations, entering this information into the scheduling database, and scheduling procedures while performing other clerical duties related to patient scheduling in the Endoscopy, Gastroenterology, and Colon & Rectal Surgery Departments.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and communicates information through various processes, including computers and telephone/paging systems.
  • Maintains a courteous, helpful, and professional manner with all interactions with customers.
  • Coordinates patient procedures with the anesthesiologist to ensure appropriate room and anesthesia availability.
  • Schedules patient endoscopy procedures into the Endoscopy Scheduling System promptly, ensuring the best possible outcome for the patient.
  • Prepares surgical schedule for the following day and notifies anesthesia, endoscopy, and other appropriate personnel of any patients added to the schedule.
  • Notifies physician, Endoscopy, and/or Anesthesia Department of any changes once the schedule has been finalized.
  • Coordinates necessary arrangements with other departments, e.g., Anesthesia, Bronchoscopy, and other staff.
  • Mails patient prep instructions, diets, and special instructions as indicated by tests and orders prep medication if required.
  • Assists co-workers when short-staffed and performs a variety of other duties as assigned.
  • Enters daily statistics into the Endoscopy Scheduling System database with an expectation of 100% accuracy.
  • Runs daily statistical and error reports from the Endoscopy Scheduling System database.

Requirements

  • Junior college or equivalent work experience in a hospital or physician office setting.
  • Completion of Medical Terminology Course or relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills and exceptional patient relation and customer service skills.
  • 2 years experience in a medical environment.
  • Familiarity with policies and procedures, understanding of scheduling requirements, medical terminology, and knowledge of surgical procedure requirements.
  • Computer entry and legalities of signing consent forms with accuracy, and screening of medical and financial information.
