About the position

The Firefighter EMT position involves performing fire prevention, suppression, hazardous material incident response, and emergency medical assistance duties to protect life and property. The role requires a commitment to public service and collaboration with various stakeholders, including other emergency services and community members.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fire safety, home safety, fire extinguisher and pre-fire planning inspections
• Provide information to the public, install smoke detectors, conduct station tours, visit schools, and participate in public education standbys
• Perform fire suppression duties by responding to emergency fire alarms
• Assist in the suppression of various types of fires and apply appropriate extinguishing agents
• Operate fire equipment and gear for suppression and control
• Provide written reports detailing firefighting and rescue actions taken on scene
• Respond to emergency medical calls and evaluate situations
• Provide emergency and non-emergency medical procedures on scene and in a moving vehicle
• Transfer patients to medical facilities and treat patients according to established protocols
• Conduct daily and weekly vehicle and equipment inspections
• Participate in all required training sessions and drills
• Review paperwork for accuracy and compliance with policies

Requirements

• IL certified BOF
• State issued Registered EMT-B
• Current CPR/AED certification
• Valid driver license with acceptable driving record
• High School diploma or GED required

Nice-to-haves

• If assigned to an airport operation - State, IFSAC, ProBoard or FAA Airport Firefighter certification
