About the position

As an Employee Benefits Account Specialist, you will be responsible for assisting the Strategic Account Executive in assigned areas to provide management, retention, support and service of day-to-day client needs. Under direct supervision, prepares bid specifications, presentation materials and employee communications. Works directly with specific client groups.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares renewal information, which includes plan data, benefit plan invoices, census, renewal history, obtaining renewal rates from the carrier, including any alternates, ensures commission schedule is correct.
  • Creates request for proposals, obtains proposals from alternate carriers, and prepares preliminary analysis of proposal results for Strategic Account Executive to review.
  • Prepares client renewal and bid result presentation. Notifies renewing and bidding carriers of outcome.
  • Attends and participates in client meetings as requested, documenting all meetings and phone calls regarding coverages to ensure all members of the service team are informed of pertinent information.
  • Works with clients and carriers to ensure new-hires are enrolled, status changes are processed and terminated employees are removed from appropriate policies.
  • Ensures the plan implementation and enrollment process for renewals and/or changing carriers is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Reviews plan documents for completeness and accuracy and obtaining corrections from carrier as needed.
  • Audits commission revenue statements for each line of coverage to ensure proper payment is received.
  • Answers client questions regarding procedural matters, plan provisions, claims issues, billing issues and any other benefit related situations.
  • Sets up and maintains client data in internal databases by organizing plan information received from carriers and clients.
  • Develops appropriate communication material to be used in announcing and explaining plan changes, new plans, cost changes or carrier changes.
  • Provides administrative guide and teaches client new requirements for administering the plan.
  • Continuously keeps up-to-date on industry trends and best practices, and seeks opportunities to implement them into existing policies and procedures.
  • Follows policies and procedures as outlined in the company and departmental policy manuals.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or technical school preferred.
  • Minimum one year of experience and/or training working with employee benefits preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team player with a great attitude, self-motivation and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.
  • Must be thorough, detail-oriented and responsible for working with confidential information.
  • Ability to accommodate immediate requests, perform under short deadlines and coordinate multiple jobs.
