About The Position

As an Emergency Services Dispatcher 1 with the Alaska State Troopers, you will be expected to maintain positivity and resiliency while providing support for the field enforcement units of the Department of Public Safety at the Alaska State Troopers Northern Operations Center. You will display professionalism, compassion, and support to all individuals contacted in the line of duty, including the public, field enforcement units, civilian staff, other agencies, and coworkers. Your role will involve answering emergency and non-emergency calls for service via radio and phone for areas throughout the State of Alaska. The Department of Public Safety strives to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. As an Emergency Services Dispatcher, you will be instrumental in ensuring this mission is met by providing direct support for law enforcement activities. You will contribute to a positive workplace culture based on transparent communication, teamwork, continuing education, accountability, respect, and integrity.

Requirements

  • Two years of work experience, including six months of clerical tasks (greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs).
  • Ability to type at a net speed of 30 words per minute with no more than three errors per minute.
  • Ability to produce consistently high-quality work in an environment with numerous interruptions and rapidly shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Willingness to work shiftwork, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Ability to operate multiple telephone lines.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills.
  • Must be willing to submit to a fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
  • Must read, understand, and agree to an agreement of confidentiality via signature.
