About the position

The Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner 2 (NURSE PRACT 2) at UC Davis Medical Center provides advanced clinical expertise in emergency medicine to patients and their families. This role involves managing chronic and acute medical conditions, performing non-invasive and invasive procedures, and acting as a resource for healthcare providers. The Nurse Practitioner will work in a team-based environment, demonstrating leadership and accountability while participating in patient and staff education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent advanced level nurse practitioner clinical expertise to patients and their families.
  • Manage chronic stable medical conditions and provide routine and acute care.
  • Perform non-invasive and invasive procedures as defined by standardized procedures.
  • Act as an expert resource for healthcare providers including nurses and residents.
  • Participate in patient and staff education and demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Engage in quality and evidence-based practice and research.

Requirements

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing License
  • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate within 3 months of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Graduation with a master's degree, DNP or PhD in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
  • At least three (3) years of recent NP experience in an acute care setting (inpatient, ED, critical care)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Judgment skills to effectively meet the needs of patients
  • Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year or greater recent clinical experience in specialty care of the hiring department.
