Emergency Medical Technician (Non-Safety)

About the position

The City of Chula Vista is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Emergency Medical Technician (Non-Safety) within the Fire Department. This position involves responding to emergency medical calls, providing basic and advanced life support, and participating in public education and training activities. EMTs will operate ambulances and deliver essential medical care to the community, contributing to the Fire Department's mission of service and protection.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, and other emergency situations.
• Provide definitive medical care and perform first aid and lifesaving duties.
• Operate an ambulance safely and treat patients according to established protocols.
• Communicate vital medical data to medical personnel and administer medical treatment as directed.
• Prepare and maintain records and reports related to emergency medical services.
• Participate in training, public education, and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and the public.

Requirements

• Valid certification as an EMT with the State of California.
• Valid EMT accreditation with the County of San Diego EMS Office.
• Valid California Class C Driver's License.
• Completion of the twelfth grade; an Associate's degree in Fire Science is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of emergency medical basic life support principles and procedures.
• Ability to perform competently under extreme pressure and in stressful situations.
