About The Position

The ED Tech provides direct patient care under the guidance of an RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health. This role involves providing basic patient care and tasks such as care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assisting with mobility, performing lab draws, ECGs, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN. The position also includes arriving patients in EPIC, verifying patient information, placing wristbands, completing patient rounding, providing 1:1 patient safety companion services as needed, acting as a liaison between patient and nurse, providing high-level customer service, accurate and timely documentation, participating in handoff reports, performing delegated tasks after competency validation, and promoting quality and safety. The ED Tech must demonstrate the ability to work independently, problem-solve, and resolve conflict under stress, while maintaining knowledge of policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from the approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • Current certification per state requirements for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting (preferred), STNA (required) or be in nursing school
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.
