About the position

The Eligibility Advisor I position at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is a temporary role focused on assisting vulnerable citizens in Texas by determining their eligibility for various public assistance programs. This position involves interviewing applicants, evaluating data, and processing benefits in accordance with state and federal regulations. The role is designed for individuals who are motivated, compassionate, and dedicated to providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Interview applicants and recipients to obtain financial and personal information for eligibility determination.
• Evaluate data from various sources and enter information into a computer-based eligibility system.
• Compute and authorize benefits based on eligibility determinations.
• Process work in accordance with state and federal regulations and established procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including working overtime and weekends when required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• One year of customer service experience with public contact is required.
• Experience in an environment interviewing clients and gathering personal information is preferred.
• Ability to read, understand, apply, and explain detailed regulations and policies.
• Proficiency in basic arithmetic functions and time management.

Nice-to-haves

• Sixty semester or ninety quarter hours from an accredited college or university is preferred.
• Experience in retail, call center, clerical, hospitality, banking, or similar customer service roles.
