About the position

The Adapted Physical Education Specialist at Brenham ISD is responsible for providing tailored learning activities and experiences to help students achieve their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. This role involves planning and implementing lesson plans, accommodating diverse learning needs, and fostering a positive classroom environment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and implement lesson plans that meet district requirements.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student abilities and learning styles.
  • Coordinate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to IEP guidelines.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement and provide remediation as needed.
  • Create a conducive classroom environment for active learning.
  • Manage student behavior effectively.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students, parents, and staff.
  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Skill in managing a classroom and student behavior.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with others.
  • Skill in modifying instruction for various student needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with English language learners.
  • Experience in special education settings.
