About the position

The Elementary Instructional Assistant for Special Education (DLC) at Riddle School District plays a crucial role in supporting the instructional and supportive services within the school system. This position involves working closely with a licensed teacher to assist in developing and implementing educational programs tailored to the needs of students with disabilities. The role requires a higher level of skill and aptitude in addressing the unique behavioral and learning needs of these students, ensuring a conducive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in planning and implementing learning experiences for students enrolled in programs.
  • Confer with teachers to provide feedback on student performance, progress, and testing activities.
  • Devise special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on an understanding of individual students' needs.
  • Monitor classroom management in accordance with district discipline procedures, including physical restraint and movement of students when necessary.
  • Perform clerical functions related to student record keeping, IEP development, and maintaining accurate files.
  • Supervise students in various school areas and activities, including hall duty and during assemblies.
  • Handle discipline problems according to district procedures and individual behavior support plans.
  • Occasionally assist students with basic feeding and personal hygiene needs, including potty training or diaper changes.
  • Maintain confidentiality and ethical behavior regarding student and staff information.
  • Work independently and utilize problem-solving skills to address individual student needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of 2 years of college study or 72 credits, or an Associate's degree or higher, or evidence of passing the COMPASS test.
  • Knowledge of or ability to understand and adhere to Special Education rules.
