About The Position

The Primary Purpose of this role is to assist students in learning content and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. This position requires a Bachelor's degree, a valid Texas teaching certificate with Health Education or a Health endorsement, and current ESL Certification (required within two years of employment). The role also requires meeting NCLB Highly Qualified criteria and district minimum requirements for content area staff development. Teaching Technology Applications experience is preferred, along with strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. Three years of classroom teaching experience is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate that includes Health Education or a Health endorsement
  • Current ESL Certification: ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year
  • Meet NCLB Highly Qualified criteria as required by assignment.
  • Meets district minimum requirements for content area staff development (or will meet within one (1) year
  • Teaching Technology Applications experience preferred
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Three (3) years classroom teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach a program of study integrating technology and health education.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives.
  • Employ appropriate instructional methods and materials.
  • Assess students’ accomplishments, continually.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures.
  • Assist in implementing policies and rules.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development.
  • Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities.
  • Implement classroom modifications for special education/504 students.
  • Actively seek and participate in health and instructional technology professional growth.
  • Comply with state, district, and federal laws; district and campus regulations and policies for instructional specialists as they exist or may hereafter be amended.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Probationary contract – 187 days plus 4 days of Alief U professional development for a teacher new to the district
  • Minimum teacher salary is $66,500 (base $64,100 + $2,400 Teacher Retention Allotment (TRA) Stipend)
  • Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days, the salary will be less.
