About the position

As an electrochemical modeling engineer, you will leverage simulation tools to support the design, product innovation, and strategy. You will apply problem-solving skills to develop new and innovative modeling and simulation solutions to address complex issues. You will take ownership and leadership to mature electrochemical models and simulation tools through collecting product data, validating the model against them, and establishing key performance indicators for the models and simulation tools. Teamwork is crucial. You will not only follow and respect the existing working process but also offer ideas and take actions to drive continuous process improvement. You must possess the capability to interface with multifunctional teams to collect feedback that may improve the effectiveness of modeling and simulation tools. You will manage multiple priorities simultaneously because of your excellent planning, organization, and time management skills. You are intellectually curious, driving continual learning and new modeling and simulation solutions and product innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and use multi-physics-based models based on coupled differential equations using commercial software packages such as COMSOL, ANSYS Fluent, SABER, Matlab/Simulink, or Python.
  • Design experiments for extracting data or calibrations needed for the battery system model and for assessing simulation accuracy.
  • Extract basic physical or material parameters using parameter optimization techniques from empirical measurement data or literature.
  • Support the evaluation of customer-specific performance requirements by providing simulation-based analysis and preparing simplified tools for customer engineers.
  • Support the development of modeling and data analysis tools and use existing tools for product design analysis needs.
  • Support battery control algorithm development for battery management systems.
  • Work closely with multifunctional engineering teams in defining modeling and simulation requirements, deliverables, and resources for project work.
  • Document and communicate model implementation, validation, simulation results, and quality assessments on simulation predictions.

Requirements

  • PhD or master's in Engineering and Science (Chemistry, Mechanical, Material, Physics, etc.) with a strong focus in electrochemistry and modeling disciplines.
  • 3 to 6 years minimum industrial modeling and simulation experience related to battery energy storage solutions (PhD: +3 years, Master's: +6 years).
  • 5 years electrochemical modeling and simulation project experience using commercial software packages such as COMSOL, Saber, or ANSYS Fluent.
  • 5 years software coding project experience in Python or MATLAB.
  • 5 years project experience in parameter optimization techniques and statistical analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Automotive industry experience.
  • Advanced statistics and machine learning knowledge.
  • Experience with analyzing actual product failure mechanisms and resolving product quality and performance issues.
  • Knowledgeable in battery manufacturing processes with experience in handling complexity and variability in production environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide technical direction.
