The Electrician (Power System) position at the Bureau of Reclamation in Redding, CA, involves performing skilled electrician duties related to high voltage electrical equipment and systems in hydroelectric power plants and associated facilities. Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled electrician duties associated with high voltage electrical equipment and primary electrical distribution systems.
  • Work on high voltage substations, pumping plants, and hydroelectric generating stations.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical assemblages, troubleshoot, and test electrical lines and systems.
  • Connect and service power transformers, switches, meters, relays, and other electrical equipment.
  • Plan and lay out routing and placement of electrical lines and systems, ensuring safe operation.
  • Install wiring, conduit, fixtures, and transformers using technical drawings and work orders.
  • Perform infrared thermography to scan low voltage equipment.
  • Remove and install stator and field coils, and perform necessary repairs.
  • Conduct asbestos abatement related to electrical equipment.
  • Operate motor vehicles and may operate cranes, forklifts, and other equipment.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • Must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
  • Must maintain a valid State Driver's License.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Experience and training to perform the duties without more than normal supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Programmable Logic Control and solid state devices.
  • Knowledge of electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems effectively.
