About The Position

Tufts Medicine is looking for an experienced Electrician - Facilities Management to join their team at Melrose/Wakefield Hospital. This role is responsible for the proper functioning of all electrical systems through preventative maintenance, repairs, replacement, and installation of new systems. The electrician will repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using hand tools and testing instruments to ensure electrical lighting and equipment operations in the hospital.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Licensed as an electrician
  • Three (3) years of experience as an electrician

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and tests electrical lighting, signal, communication and power circuits and equipment, using testing instruments, such as ammeter, ohmmeter and volt meter and testing lamp.
  • Examines and tests elements of the system such as panel distribution, controls, emergency generators, circuit fixtures and motors to locate obvious faults.
  • Repairs electrical circuits and equipment, replacing faulty switches, socket plugs, fuses, insulators and other simple elements of electrical systems.
  • Renews circuits by isolating and cutting off broken wires and replacing with new wiring or by splicing ends of broken wires.
  • Dismantles electrical machinery with hand tools and unsolders or unscrews wiring connections, replacing defective mechanical parts such as brushes, armatures, commutators and transformers, assembling components according to diagrams.
  • Checks clearance of moving parts with precision gauges and restores electrical connections to complete circuits.
  • Cuts and shapes conduit with hand tools and fastens it in place with brackets or similarly installs armored cable.
  • Fastens fixtures, switches and outlet boxes in position, runs wire through conduit and makes connections to complete circuits.
  • Assembles, installs and connects components of switchboards and distribution panels and connects them to units controlled.
  • Mounts motors, transformers, lighting fixtures or other equipment into position, completing circuits according to diagram specifications.
  • Required to enforce leakage testing program to ensure safe levels of all electrical equipment directly associated with patients.
  • Able to take conductive readings on conductive flooring and report records of readings.
  • Tests generators on a weekly basis and under full load once per month to check emergency power source.
  • May perform related general maintenance tasks such as leaking faucets, running toilets, clogged drains, broken belts, fuses, light bulbs, repair beds, repair carpet tears, repair driveways/parking areas, replacing glass windows, ceiling tile, building scaffolding, concrete forms, assisting other craftsmen in handling materials on major repair or installation projects.
  • May be asked to perform general maintenance tasks at other facilities, including all “Outside Properties” and Melrose Wakefield Hospital.
  • Participates in all snow removal and sanding functions.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
