About The Position

The Electrical Estimator will support Conti Corporation’s Midwest MEP Electrical Division by preparing competitive and accurate cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical construction projects. This role works out of the Sterling Heights, MI office and reports directly to the Director of Midwest Services, collaborating virtually and in person as needed to ensure coordinated bid strategies and estimating accuracy. The Estimator is responsible for performing quantity takeoffs, reviewing specifications and drawings, analyzing subcontractor pricing, and assembling complete bid proposals that reflect Conti’s standards for quality, safety, and constructability.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of electrical estimating experience in commercial or industrial construction.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, electrical systems, distribution equipment, cabling, lighting, fire alarm, BMS, and low‑voltage systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical drawings and project manuals.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (Accubid, McCormick preferred).
  • Strong math, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently from the Irvine office while collaborating with leadership in Sterling Heights.

  • Experience preparing budgets, design‑assist or design‑build estimates (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed electrical estimates for commercial, industrial, mission‑critical, healthcare, and infrastructure projects.
  • Review blueprints, specifications, addendums, and related documents to determine scope and project requirements.
  • Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for lighting, power distribution, low‑voltage systems, gear, conduit, wire, and equipment.
  • Develop pricing for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Midwest Services for bid strategy, clarifications, risk analysis, and proposal reviews.
  • Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain and compare quotes.
  • Prepare RFI questions, scope sheets, and bid-leveling documentation.
  • Understand value‑engineering opportunities and propose alternative materials or installation methods.
  • Participate in handoff meetings with project managers and field teams to ensure clarity of scope and expectations.
  • Maintain estimating databases, cost histories, and organized bid documentation.
  • Assist with preconstruction planning, budgeting, and conceptual estimating when required.
