About the position

SAIC is seeking an organized and motivated Electrical Engineer to support a fast-paced work environment with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division in Middletown, RI. This role involves collaborating with a team of engineers and support technicians to bring various electrical designs from concept to fabrication, focusing on automated test equipment design, printed circuit board design, cable design, and acoustic system design. Responsibilities

  • Design and test electronic systems for embedded underwater applications, custom data acquisition systems, and automated test hardware for land-based testing of naval systems.
  • Develop and execute test plans for new designs and document results.
  • Design and document systems and circuits using OrCAD, Eagle, Visio, Altium, or PADS.
  • Utilize powerful computer, software, and test equipment resources to enhance job effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers, logisticians, technicians, and draftsmen to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Review specifications, requirements, schematics, bill of materials, mechanical drawings, and test plans for accuracy.
  • Create and review well-documented notes of design changes to maintain version control of drawings.
  • Troubleshoot both large-scale systems and individual components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and two (2) years or more experience.
  • Experience in engineering design, analysis, and testing.
  • Electronic design experience in test equipment, power electronics, amplifiers, filtering, signal conditioning, and/or high-speed digital.
  • Schematic entry experience in schematic capture software.
  • Experience contributing to engineering documentation for a technical data package.
  • Ability to read and understand basic electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience using test equipment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to interact directly with customers to extract requirements and generate plans.
  • PCB design experience with Mentor Graphics PADS Layout, Cadence OrCAD PCB Designer, Altium, or Eagle.
  • Experience with MATLAB for data manipulation, processing, and visualization.
  • FPGA experience using Vivado for Xilinx hardware or Quartus for Intel products in Verilog and VHDL.
  • Experience with soldering and debugging circuits and basic mechanical tools.
  • Hands-on lab experience using oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, spectrum analyzers, and impedance analyzers.
  • Familiarity with System Engineering concepts.
  • Experience with marine hardware including ROVs, UUVs, sonar, arrays, and transducers.
  • Familiarity with National Instruments products including PXI, LabView, or CVI.
