About the position

Provide advanced electrical engineering services in support of either the operation and maintenance of the campus electrical distribution system or the design, construction and operation of electrical equipment, components or systems associated with research efforts within an academic or research unit. Provide work and project direction to other engineers and technical personnel. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: facilities management and utilities personnel or research management and faculty; co-workers, vendors, suppliers and contractors. This position typically will advise and counsel: management, engineering and technical personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in the design, installation and testing of electrical/electronic components
  • Conduct project reviews for conformance to quality standards and compliance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Develop engineering project schedules and make work assignments
  • Conduct analyses of electrical/electronic system performance
  • Develop plans and specifications for electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems; may involve oversight of calibration and repair work
  • Prepare drawings, schematics diagrams and related documentation associated with electrical components and systems
  • Manage project engineering budgets
  • Interact with vendors regarding procurement and delivery issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Four to five years of job related experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Experience ensuring laboratory environments operate to their fullest potential and optimum efficiency
  • Experience aiding in sponsored project work such as assembling various hardware components and system fabrication for various optical systems
  • Experience designing Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
  • Skills in inventory management
  • IPC Endorsements such as J-STD-001, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-7711, and IPC-7721
  • Experience with hardware design and layout using EAGLE, Cadence, KiCad, Altium, etc.
  • Experience with active and/or passive electro-optical components
  • Experience with electronic test equipment, connectors, and wiring harnesses
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) assembly, test, and debug
  • Experience in mechanical fabrication
