About the position

The Electrical Engineer at La-Z-Boy Incorporated is responsible for researching and designing electrical components and applications, focusing on failure mode effects and analysis (FMEA) and life cycle reliability. This role is crucial for conceiving and launching products that meet industry-leading performance and safety standards, collaborating cross-functionally with various teams including R&D, Procurement, Quality, Manufacturing, and Customer Care.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate product design concepts incorporating new or modified electrical content for feasibility and revise for manufacturing and production.
• Develop electrical design and requirements to meet program needs.
• Manage electrical system development to align with program objectives.
• Assist in developing prototypes to evaluate functionality and usability.
• Prepare reports and present project status at Phase Gate meetings.
• Support Customer Care teams in developing training materials and documentation, such as troubleshooting guides and repair processes.
• Evaluate the feasibility of incorporating developing technologies into La-Z-Boy products.
• Ensure protection and processing of intellectual property and patents.
• Validate product designs through verification and compliance testing.
• Track changes in regulations impacting La-Z-Boy products and maintain electronic program compliance to applicable standards.
• Lead the development and update of electrical requirements and test methods using FMEAs and other quality tools.
• Develop manufacturing requirements for new technology introductions.
• Build prototype systems to support mechanical design validation testing.
• Serve as the electrical design liaison between suppliers and La-Z-Boy's developmental team.
• Review technical feasibility of supplier quotes and provide input to supplier agreements.
• Participate in new supplier audits and review quality documentation from suppliers.
• Provide technical support during electrical system issue investigations and aid in resolution determination.
• Support plants in handling, testing, and developing electrical component gauges in the manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with Quality and Supply Chain to develop appropriate inspections.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 2-4 years of experience in an electronic design role or equivalent.
• Experience with logic control systems, sensors, low power converters, and analog or mixed-signal circuit design.
• Test and debug equipment experience.
• Designing electronic circuit assemblies for medium volume, low cost, low power, small products.
• Ability to travel up to 30%.

Nice-to-haves

• Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of 0-2 years of experience in an electronic design role.
• Knowledge of statistical process capability (SPC) concepts.
• Understanding of EMI and ESD.
