About The Position

The Electrical Designer is responsible for creating detailed electrical designs and drawings for building systems and infrastructure projects. This role involves collaborating with engineers and other design professionals to ensure accurate, efficient, and code-compliant electrical layouts.

Requirements

  • Experience producing Electrical design and construction documents in an A/E consulting firm
  • Ability to mentor and provide guidance to other Electrical staff
  • Experience providing supervision to junior electrical designers, and other technical staff
  • Broad understanding and experience with design and office related computer software and operating systems
  • Knowledgeable of building electrical engineering concept development, and final design including, power systems (medium & low voltage), low voltage control systems, lighting design, and fire alarm systems
  • General knowledge of security systems, telephone and communications systems, closed circuit TV systems, cable TV systems, HVAC systems, HVAC controls, plumbing systems, fire protection, and piping systems
  • Proficiency in Electrical REVIT and/or AUTOCAD
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Comfortable with a broad range of project types
  • Familiarity and experience working with building codes
  • Capable and competent in all areas of electrical building design
  • Proactive and assertive in problem solving
  • Staff management and client relationship skills
  • Comfortable working in teams and making group presentations
  • Experience providing marketing and project interview support
  • Familiarity with A/E industry BIM standards
  • Experience working with Federal Government Agencies such as the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice and the US Army Corps of Engineers, a plus
  • LEED certification a plus
  • Good written and oral communications skills; fluent in speaking, reading and writing in English

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Commercial, Industrial and Mixed-Use Developments including Civic, Public Safety, Education, Healthcare, etc.
  • Experience with ELUM Visual Lighting, Agi32, Navisworks a plus.
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and industry trends.

Responsibilities

  • Help our clients achieve their goals
  • Work with Director, Senior Electrical Engineers and Project Managers to meet KZF goals and objectives
  • Prepare Electrical design and construction documents in REVIT or AUTOCAD
  • Seeking advice and counsel from Senior Electrical Engineers and Director of Electrical Engineering Services as needed
  • Interface with all professional disciplines assigned to the project to coordinate the Electrical work
  • Prepare electrical design studies, written design narratives, calculations, and analysis
  • Research building materials and systems and select appropriate items for incorporation into the building design
  • Maintain a general knowledge of architectural, mechanical, structural, civil, fire protection and telecom building systems; coordinate these systems with the electrical design
  • Research and prepare building code analysis as required
  • Prepare design documents as required for all phases of design (concept, schematic, design development, construction documents) and direct Electrical support staff as required
  • Prepare documents in conformance with KZF standards and quality control requirements
  • Prepare outline and final construction document specifications
  • Remain current with new products and tools that will assist you in better meeting our client’s needs
  • Conduct field investigations as required to understand project requirements
  • Maintain technical accuracy, constructability, code conformance, and appropriate level of detail for project scopes
  • Review project design for technical accuracy, constructability, code conformance, and appropriate level of detail for project
  • Assist with internal Electrical quality assurance reviews
  • Participate in value engineering; attend project team meetings
  • Maintain technical expertise in your profession and area of work
  • Provide technical, project management and client management support to projects
  • Assist in mentoring and technical development of Electrical staff
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of electrical design standards including master specifications, Electrical standards, drawing standard procedures, CADD standards and project documentation standards, as assigned by the Director
  • Assist with construction administration, review shop drawings, prepare construction submittals, participate in construction site observation, prepare Request for Information (RFI) responses and work with the Construction Administration Department and other team members to resolve construction issues in a timely manner
